Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PCG) falling power lines are being investigated as a possible cause of fires burning in California’s Wine Country, multiple sources reported.

Investigators are looking into reports strong winds knocked down numerous Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power lines between 9:20 and 10 p.m. Sunday, reports said, citing a statement from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. “We are investigating a number of potential causes, including whether reports of power lines falling down and electrical transformers exploding Sunday night may have caused some of the wildfires in the region,” said Deputy Director Janet Upton.

The timing of the power line crashes coincides with the time some of the most damaging fires broke out in Napa and Sonoma counties.
